Who are we?
We’re Mimi and Andy, a wife and husband team working across Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Dorset.
Together, we form The Fable Family. Our work centres on people, animals and the quiet spaces they call home, photographed in a way that feels more like storytelling – natural and unforced. Most of our sessions take place in familiar surroundings or out in the landscape, where there is room to settle in and simply be. There is very little direction. Things unfold as they will.
Between us, we bring over 40 years of experience in photography. Before settling in Somerset, we spent a decade in Ireland building a loyal and much-loved client base. Leaving was not easy, but the move felt right. Somerset has quickly become home, and we have found real joy in the landscape and the community here.
Andy is also an artist, creating hand-drawn portraits of people, animals and homes in pencil, pastel, graphite and fine line. That same attention to detail runs through everything we do. Nothing hurried, nothing overworked.
Life outside of work is simple and full. Mimi is usually in the garden tending to her veggies (and the odd flower), Andy can usually be found with a pencil in his hand. We have a small dog, Dixon, who goes almost everywhere with us, though he draws the line at coming to work. He’s 12 now and would much rather curl up on the couch with the radio on.
When we have the time, you’ll find us in our campervan, Winnie, exploring our new environment. Life is too short to be bored and too precious to taken for granted.
At its heart, The Fable Family is about noticing what matters and capturing it with care: Simple, natural storytelling.
Our Approach
It all starts with a cuppa. We want to get to know you for a minute before we do anything else. Welcome us into your space like you would a friend, stick on the kettle and lets have a chat before we get started.
If you have children, you’ll likely find us on the floor with them or even the dog. There’s no judgement, no fuss and there are certainly no worries. If you’ve got laundry piled up on the couches or we move an armchair and find dust-bunnies breeding under there, we swear we didn’t see a thing.
Mimi (Milca… Meal-ka)
Hi! I’m the one whose name nobody can spell or pronounce and that’s totally okay. With my sweet nephew’s arrival into the world, I decided it was time to rebrand – Auntie Mimi has a nice ring to it, so at 40, I’ve had an identity glow up! My chief jobs include baby cuddling and taking pictures. I love people, I love learning about people and I love showing them how wonderful they are. Teaching and photography mentorship are part of my job too and they’re something I’m very passionate about!
I love to embroider, garden (organic veggies, yum!) and make my own skincare and household cleaning products (who doesn’t love potions & witchery?!).
I love love. Family connections, couples and the relationships between humans and their dogs. Capturing connection is what gets me out of bed every morning!
Andy
Hi, I’m Andy. I’m the chief toddler wrangler. Rumour has it I’m a photographer too, though lately the business has acquired a new videography branch so I’m doing that now as well!
I’m the technical man, in charge of equipment, tricky lighting situations, studio portraits and major edits (Photoshop wizardry they say!).
I love constantly learning and perfecting new techniques, staying up to date with the latest technology and problem solving. I also love running around fields and forests with our families, blowing bubbles, playing peekaboo and drinking tiny cups of imaginary tea.
When I’m not working, I draw using coloured pencils, graphite and pastels. I also knit (and solve Milca’s knitting problems), cook, whittle things out of wood, undertake DIY projects and read (audiobooks count as reading too, surely). You can find my art work on www.andywilsonfineart.co.uk !
Dixon
We can’t not include our little man, Dixon. He’s the chief mental health officer for MIAN Photography, always on hand with sage advice, cuddles and adventures off the beaten track.

What’s in Your Camera Bag?
Does it matter what you’re using? In some cases, yes, but often, it’s quite simply what you do with it that matters. We have a wide range of cameras and related equipment that we’ve gathered over the years. We regularly upgrade our equipment to ensure that we can continue to produce the highest quality available for our clients.
We are always on hand for equipment advice for our photography students, so never hesitate to ask!
What equipment we use, will depend on the situation. We have a range of camera bodies and lenses for various purposes, we also have a wide range of lighting solutions for every occasion. Most of our equipment is Canon, however we both have experience with Fuji (Andy) and Nikon (Milca) and our students use various other brands that we are also happy to work with when teaching.
